Anneli Olander Berglund
Artist | Professional | Varied
Sweden
♥ Swedish illustrator and artist Anneli Olander Berglund grew up in a small town, deep in the thickly forested, copper-rich Swedish province of Värmland -- and later found happiness in the poetic and coffee sipping urban jungle of Stockholm.

She has been freelancing since January 2007 when, at the age of 26, she started her own company A.Olander Illustration. Her favourite quote is "I didn't make it because I was the best- I made it because I couldn't afford to lose".

Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including at :
Be Cool gallery in Rome, Italy (2008), Corey Helford Gallery LA, USA (2008) and Friends of Leon Gallery in Sydney, Australia (2011).

More recent ventures have seen her illustrations adorn everything from the iPad skins to iPhone apps, from artisanal chocolates to the pages of ArtNews.

Olander’s illustrations combine a lush painterly sensibility with a darkly playful take on girlish fun and the remixing of fantasy with the everyday.

I think my art will have to sum up the years that has passed. I'm glad they are behind me in that sense I don't regret them but they were hard.

Morning Me by OhAnneli

I'm a do-er and even though at times I've had this feeling that my life isn't mine and I'm something of a Sims character it's been amazing in terms of life lessons. I've really had to check out my ego at the door and focus on the important things in life. Me returning here is just a sign things are getting better and I can squeeze in me-time again.

These last few years I've written two books, I'm writing on two more, also working on 3 comics and still making art. Please note: I couldn't help writing and creating in this time but I didn't have time to find a publisher or editor or anything, I've just been creating stuff because I needed to.

With the lack of time and focus I'm amazed I've actually never stopped participating in art shows, most recent was this December 2017, the fun popart groupshow at Giant Robot Gallery in LA. It was an invitation only group show where the artists had to paint or draw on post-it's that were all sold at the same prize. Matt Groening, founder of the Simpsons, had a couple of pieces there as well as my pop realist painter friend Linnea Strid and a lot of my favourite artists were participating too. I sold something too, it was great. That kind of stuff humbles me a lot. I've had zero time on my hands to keep up networking and planning, but in the end lady luck sometimes smiles on me too

In December 2017 I participated in the invitation only group art show at Giant Robot Gallery featuring artists like Matt Groening, you might know him from the Simpsons. It was an honored to be invited and I did sell something too.

 I'd love some test readers on a comic I'm making. Any takers? I want someone 18+ years because there's violence and romance taking place.
A close-up of City of Girls and Creatures
My earlier post wasn't very clear so here's a close up to get a sense of the amount of detail I've added in every "scene" of the painting. Here's a section that is a story about when I went vegan (still vegan large portions of the week but making exceptions when my kids pipe in what they want to eat, they are still too small to make a decision on this matter but if they want to become full time vegetarian I'll back them up 100%, but if they don't, I won't shame them. Big topic.) One corner is the lonely salesperson trying to sell his shit to a limited crowd (hello my freelance life balancing motherhood) and if you look into the pink house it's utter chaos. My husband was diagnosed with OCD (read up on it if you've been laughing at too many "cute" meme's about OCD, it's a painful mental illness, watch the Aviator to actually get an idea what it's REALLY about) and me, the slob artist lady had to grow up in a way I've never had before and do EVERYTHING (work, housework, kids) and some nights as I had put my daughters to bed I was too tired to think and just cried in my pillow. Don't worry. It's getting better. But life really took an unexpected twist and my grand plans went in the trash along with my megalomania. What is left is the raw shape and form of me, without the layers I thought I was. Painting this I realized I am every character in here, the creatures, the monsters, the dragon and the bystanders. I'm still me, but without the expectations that would mean something or propel me somewhere. Makes sense?

Closeups will come, sorry for the small image, this is a huge painting I still need to mount, stretch and work a little bit more on before varnishing. But overall this is what it's going to look like pretty much.
